One of the most important components needed for a successful walk with Christ is a firmly rooted identity in who He is. To cultivate this, it can be helpful to go through some affirmations from the Bible about who God says that we are. Let’s look at some.
1. In Christ, I have been blessed with every spiritual blessing.
Ephesians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
When we talk about blessings, we often forget about heavenly blessings. In Christ and what He did for you, you have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. When we pass over into the heavenly realms, we will each get to experience those blessings, and even now, we can draw from them.
2. I am a son/daughter of God and an heir to Him.
Galatians 4:7 says, “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
Through the sacrifice on the cross, God adopts us into His kingdom and makes us His sons and daughters. Through this, we become heirs to Him and His glory and blessings. We are freed from the slavery of sin that we were once chained to and we instead become heirs to the true King.
3. I have been saved by grace and made alive with Christ.
Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
To God, you were worth saving. You were worth the suffering that Christ went through on the cross because you have been made in His image. By His grace, He has made you alive with Christ and has saved you for much greater purposes. If this isn’t a reason to get excited about your worth, I don’t know what is!
4. There is absolutely nothing that can separate me from God’s love.
Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Think about that. There is nothing that can separate you from the love that God has for you. Your sin, the battles you face in life, the people around you who try to bring you down; none of that can ever take you away from the love of God. Live your days in confidence because God loves you and nothing can take that away.
